How to choose for stretch ceilings

In order for the lamp to be ideally suited for a stretch ceiling, everything needs to be measured to the centimeter. Otherwise, you can damage the structure, up to dismantling. The most rational option is spot round lamps of small diameter.

What sizes are recessed lights
A typical round spot for a plasterboard floor.

For them, the holes in the ceiling do not need large ones. The round shape minimizes the risk of floor damage. So that the temperature does not rise above the indicated limit of + 80 ° C, it is worth using light bulbs with a power of up to 60 W for a fabric tension surface and up to 40 W for a film one. For halogen lamps, the power is divided in two - 30 and 20 watts, respectively.

One of the main parameters of a lighting device for suspended or stretch ceilings is cartridge design. It depends on which lamp can be used in the lamp. And this, in turn, dictates the depth of embedding the lantern (when an embedded model is used). The cartridges are of the following types:

  • E27 - such a cartridge has a conventional incandescent bulb;
  • E14 - known as a "minion", smaller than E27;
  • G4, G5, G9 - these lamps have pins, due to which the overall dimensions are reduced.

Correspondence of the diameter of the luminaire to the ceiling mount

When choosing a spotlight for a stretch ceiling, you need to focus on the mount. It is selected according to the inner diameter of the plafond part of the lamp. Diameter standards - 60, 65, 70, 75, 80 and 85 mm. The holes made in the stretch ceiling and the mounting dimensions must correspond to the same parameters.

The hole for the light source must be adjusted to a centimeter.

An important role is played by the depth of the light source. According to this parameter, ceiling lamps are:

  1. outdoor. The lamp is placed below the level of the stretch ceiling, it is covered by a ceiling. These lanterns have smaller dimensions and placement depth.
  2. Internal (embedded). The light source is placed inside the tension housing. This requires large luminaire dimensions and depth.

False ceiling fixture dimensions

Suspended surfaces finished with plasterboard or plastic usually involve the use of recessed fixtures. There are no hard limits. They, along with the depth of embedding, depend on the type of light source:

  • for halogen and LED lamps, the dimensions of the lamp are 3-10 cm;
  • for incandescent lamps - from 10 cm.

Suitable for all types of ammunition except E27 and E14 - they are not advised to use. Interestingly, the distance between the suspended structure and the surface of the lamp can be either 3 cm or 10 cm. That is why different sizes of ceiling lamps are suitable.

Important! The choice of fixtures for suspended and stretch ceilings is based not only on the dimensions of the device itself, but also on the dimensions of the room. So the device will not look out of place in the interior.

What lamps are used for tension and suspended ceilings

The main requirement for a lamp on tension, suspended structures made of plasterboard is that it should not overheat the ceiling. The maximum allowable temperature is 70-80°C. Lamps that get too hot are a potential threat to the stretch ceiling. Yellow spots, tissue damage, unpleasant odors - this is an incomplete list of what this is fraught with.

Overheating leads to such defects.

Therefore, it is better to take a lamp with low power. Preference is given to LED bulbs. Firstly, they do not overheat the surface, and secondly, they allow you to achieve any desired lighting option. A built-in or overhead model of a luminous lantern is a matter of second importance. Briefly about the most used types of lamps:

  1. Built-in LED (light-emitting diode). The advantages of such a lamp are a long service life, do not harm the eyes, do not overheat the fabric or plastic cover even during prolonged operation. But they also have an obvious disadvantage. For trouble-free operation, it may be necessary to connect additional equipment (transformer).
  2. Embedded raster. Due to the reflective plates of the lighting device, they create a diffused bright daylight.Prolonged use may adversely affect vision.
  3. Diode point. One popular use case is "starry sky".

Diode lamps give soft light, serve for a long time, do not overheat the suspended ceiling.

  1. Spot energy saving. Such lamps, in comparison with LEDs, last longer, heat up less, cost less and do not require connection to additional equipment to supply current.
  2. LED strips. Due to them in the room, you can create lighting of any areas with power control. The color is selected in accordance with the shade of the suspended ceiling. You need to connect to a transformer.

Important! When placing multiple lights on a suspended structure, there are 2 key points to keep in mind:

Luminaire parameters: what to look for

Embedding depth

The visual perception of the room is directly affected by the depth of embedding of the spot lighting device. It is she who sets how many centimeters the ceiling will fall and, accordingly, the height of the room will decrease. Recessed luminaires are most often used, therefore, between the real ceiling and the suspended or stretched rack ceiling, it is necessary to leave space for the lantern. Depending on the brand and type of lamp, the embedding depth varies between 2.5-12 cm.

Correspondence of length, width and shape to the dimensions of the room

According to the linear dimensions, ceiling lamps must be selected according to the size of the room.An overly large lantern in the interior visually narrows the space.

What sizes are recessed lights
This lighting device makes an already small, low room even smaller.

However, a tiny spot will obviously not be enough to illuminate every corner of the room. The principle applies here: 100-150 watts of power is needed per 10 sq.m. The larger the size of the ceiling, the better the light is scattered around the room, and less stress falls on the eyes. Not the last role is played by the constructive solution of the room. So, in a square room, round spots will look good, and in a rectangular room, square ones or irregular shape.

Height

Any spotlight has a part that is hidden in a niche between the stretch ceiling and the real one. This fact must be taken into account when choosing the height of the lamp. Much depends on the type of lamps used. For luminaires with incandescent lamps, the height of the hidden part can reach 12 cm, with halogen - 5-8 cm, with LED - up to 6 cm. For recessed downlights, the actual height dimensions are equivalent to the recessed depth. If the room is very high ceilings and you want to “reduce” them due to additional overlap, you can safely take a large lamp or several small ones, evenly spaced along the ceiling. With low ceilings, the story is reversed: you should not further lower them.
